Tamworth to Receive Its Own Breast Care Nurse

Tamworth is set to receive its first McGrath Breast Care Nurse, following an announcement from the McGrath Foundation and the Hunter New England Local Health District.

President and Co-Founder of the Foundation, Glenn McGrath, was in Tamworth with McGrath Foundation CEO Petra Buchanan, to make the exciting announcement with Hunter New England Health Executive Director, Rural & Regional Health Services, Susan Heyman.

‘This has been a topic of much passionate discussion in Tamworth over recent weeks and months, so we’re thrilled that through working directly with Hunter New England Health we’ve been able to secure this position.’ Glenn said.

Susan Heyman said the local need for a McGrath Breast Care Nurse was evident.

‘We are pleased that we have been able to secure a McGrath Breast Care Nurse to be based at the North West Cancer Centre in Tamworth. This position will enhance our current cancer services to provide support for patients and their families throughout the duration of their breast cancer journey,’ Susan said.

The Tamworth-based position will help service the New England community, working collaboratively with existing McGrath Breast Care Nurses in Moree and Armidale.

Glenn thanked the Tamworth community for their ongoing support of the Foundation over the years.

‘I’ve been continually blown away by the support we receive each year at the Toyota Country Music Festival here in Tamworth, and I’m so pleased to be able to make this announcement,’ he said.

It costs more than $12 million every year to fund our 117 nurse positions across Australia, so the support we receive from communities like Tamworth truly makes a difference.
