A McGrath Cancer Care Nurse provides clinical, psychosocial and emotional support to people with any type of cancer throughout their treatment.

We want to connect you with the support that best meets your needs. The information and support provided by a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse will depend on your treating facility and treating team. 

We’re continuing to grow the number of McGrath Cancer Care Nurses to support people across a wide range of cancer types, not just breast cancer. Growing this number will take time, but our purpose is to ensure no one misses out on care. 

Some McGrath Cancer Care Nurses specialise in one type of cancer, while others support multiple cancer types. You can use our Find a Nurse Directory to search for a nurse in your area and by cancer stream. 

If there isn’t currently a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse available for your search, our partner organisations are here to help and can provide support relevant to your cancer type. You can find a list of our partner organisations here.   

When a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse forms part of your care team, they can provide expert care and support from diagnosis and throughout treatment. You can expect to receive clinical, psychosocial, and emotional support from your nurse, in addition to support from your broader care team. 

You can ask your health service if there is already a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse connected to your current care team.  

If there is not currently a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse connected to your care team, you can still contact a nurse for information about your cancer, helpful resources, and advice on where to get additional support. Use the Find A Nurse Directory and use the contact information in your search results to connect with a nurse. 

If you can’t find your cancer type in our list, or aren't sure which option is most relevant to you, you can contact Cancer Council on 13 11 20. This is a free information and support service for people experiencing cancer and their families, and they will be able to point you in the right direction.

No. You don't need a referral to see a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse. Most people are connected to a nurse by their medical professional, but you could ask if there is a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse connected to your existing care team. While we do have some nurses that work in private hospitals, most McGrath Cancer Care Nurses work in the public system. To protect your privacy, nurses working in the public system are unable to access any medical records in the private health system. For this reason, they won’t be able to offer you care that is specific to your diagnosis, but they will be able to help you with general information about your cancer, helpful resources, and advice on where to get additional support locally. 

When you find a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse using the Find A Nurse Directory, you will see the days the nurse works alongside their contact information.  

The nurses found on this Directory are not an emergency service. Our nurses will do their best to respond to you in a timely matter, however if you require urgent medical attention, please call 000. If you require urgent mental health support, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
