Sydney Water signs on as our latest Nurse Funding Partner

We are so excited to be welcoming Sydney Water as our newest nurse partner, funding the wonderful McGrath Breast Care Nurse Vicki in Campbelltown, Sydney.

To launch the partnership, we joined the team at Sydney Water HQ in October to share the impact their support will have on individuals and families experiencing breast cancer, and why access to a McGrath Breast Care Nurse is so important. The team also heard from Sydney Water Chief People Officer Gemma Martin who bravely shared the experience her family had with breast cancer and what it meant to them to have access to the vital care and support of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse.

“At a time when my Mum was dealing with so much, her care fell primarily to my Dad,” shared Gemma. “The mental (and physical!) load he was carrying was heavy. The Breast Care Nurse helped to remove some of that mental load, and support my Dad with some significant challenges, and allow him to feel a little less alone at a very challenging time for the family.”

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the McGrath Foundation team spent time at a number of the Sydney Water offices, getting to see and hear firsthand the team’s excitement about our partnership. The Sydney Water team also showed that pink is the colour of care with their Pinktober celebrations, hosting morning teas and wearing all things pink.

“Breast cancer effects almost everyone in Australia either directly or indirectly. One of the things that make Sydney Water unique is the sense of pride that our people have in providing World Class Water Services to the people of Greater Sydney. Supporting a breast care nurse has added one more thing for our people to be proud of. When they come to work each day, not only are they providing an amazing experience for our customers, but can feel proud to support the McGrath Foundation in ensuring every person in Australia has access to a McGrath Breast Care Nurse,” said Gemma.

Thank you so much for your support, Sydney Water! With your help, we’re one step closer to achieving our goal of 250 McGrath Breast Care Nurses by 2025, a major milestone in our mission of ensuring no one misses out on care.

In addition to funding a McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Sydney Water will also be distributing a shower timer to their customers over the coming months and for each person that scans the QR code, Sydney Water will make a donation to the McGrath Foundation.

“The timers not only provide a subtle reminder to take a shorter shower, but act as a visible reminder for customers to check their breasts and chests. Customers will be able to register the shower timer on the Sydney Water website, and we will make a donation to the McGrath Foundation on their behalf,” said Sydney Water Chief People Officer, Gemma Martin.
