More than a match: Pink Stumps Day
When grassroots cricket turns pink, something powerful happens.
That was certainly the case when our Pink Stumps Day ambassador, Sam Konstas joined the Manly Warringah Cricket and Junior Cricket Associations for their annual Pink Stumps Day.
Pink Stumps Day is about more than swapping whites for pink. It’s about local clubs stepping up, rallying their communities and turning a game, round robin or social match into something bigger than cricket.
Across three matches, one junior and two senior, Wakehurst Redbacks Cricket Club, Collaroy Plateau Cricket Club and Belrose Eagles Cricket Club turned a regular Sunday into a true community event.
Players swapped their usual colours for pink, families lined the boundary, and pink stumps stood proudly at the crease, signalling a day full of heart, humour and purpose.
A proud Pink Stumps Day ambassador, Sam barely had a quiet moment. Young players queued for autographs, hung on every batting tip and beamed as he joined them in the field. The association welcomed Sam after winning a visit through our Pink Stumps Day competition. For many, it was the kind of day they’ll talk about long after the season ends.
From sausage sizzles and merchandise stalls to big hits and committed fielding, every part of the day helped drive impact. The clubs didn’t just show up to play, they came out swinging for people experiencing cancer and their families.
The day exceeded all expectations, Manly Warringah Cricket Association’s Pink Stumps Day showed the true power of community-led action.
Days like this are proof of what happens when grassroots cricket rallies behind a cause. Every pink uniform worn and every dollar raised helps ensure more families can access the free, expert care of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse. That’s the real win.
