Paul Nelson and his McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, Nicola Lanci
Father of two Paul Nelson, 64, has been diagnosed with cancer three times in 10 years.
In the midst of this treatment he was connected with his McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, Nicola Lanci who Paul describes as a “life preserver”.
“Paul is an incredible example of living well with cancer, he’s gone through so much, but he’s still so active. He’s more active with lung cancer than most people with or without cancer, and that’s one of the things I’ve tried to support him through.”

Nicola is the first McGrath Cancer Care Nurse in Australia to help support people experiencing lung cancer like Paul. As well as providing clinical, psychosocial and emotional support, she’s an expert in navigating the healthcare system.
At the heart of the McGrath Foundation’s extraordinary journey is Kerry Patford, one of the original McGrath Cancer Care Nurses who has since risen to become the Foundation’s Chief Nurse.
Over the last 20 years, McGrath Cancer Care Nurses have been a lifeline in regional and rural Australia, providing expert care, hope, and support to families during their toughest times.
