Become a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse
McGrath Cancer Care Nurses are registered nurses (RNs) who have undertaken specialist education and training in caring for people with cancer. A McGrath Cancer Care Nurse has background in oncology and/or palliative care nursing and has or is working towards tertiary qualifications specific to caring for people following a cancer diagnosis.
In addition, all McGrath Cancer Care Nurses have a genuine desire to make a difference and support individuals and their families undergoing cancer treatment by offering information, clinical care and psychosocial support from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.
Why I’m passionate about cancer care
Sam Moules – Metastatic McGrath Breast Care Nurse since 2016
“Trying to help people with cancer is the most satisfying thing. I get touched by it every day. Once a patient is told their breast cancer has spread, it’s ‘oh my god, I’m going to die’. They have to go through grief, the loss of control to come to a stage when they learn to accept that metastatic breast cancer is now a part of me, a part of the rest of my life. We’re there to keep them disease-free or disease-stable for as long as possible. Trust in any relationship, you have to build over time and it’s the little things that I probably do that go a long way for them.”
