What is a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse?
McGrath Cancer Care Nurses are Registered Nurses who are experts in cancer nursing care. They have relevant postgraduate qualifications, or are working towards postgraduate qualifications specific to caring for people with a cancer diagnosis.
McGrath Cancer Care Nurses provide leading clinical, psychosocial, and emotional support to individuals with any type of cancer throughout treatment.
To become a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse you need to…
Be a Registered Nurse
Have a minimum of five years' post registration experience in providing care to people with cancer, for example surgical oncology or medical oncology.
Have relevant postgraduate qualifications, or are working towards postgraduate qualifications in cancer care nursing.
McGrath Cancer Care Nurses are provided with ongoing support through education and professional development opportunities. They are also offered clinical mentorship and participation in Communities of Practice.

The McGrath Foundation Scholarship Program
The McGrath Foundation is committed to supporting the growth and sustainability of the cancer nursing workforce across Australia. As part of this commitment, the McGrath Foundation facilitates an annual Scholarship Program that enables completion of the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Clinical Nursing – Cancer Nursing, offered at Monash University. Scholarships are available to Registered Nurses in non-McGrath Foundation funded roles who provide care to people with cancer.
The McGrath Foundation Scholarship Program opens on Tuesday 15th September 2026 and close at 5pm on Thursday 15th October 2026.
