How do we get a McGrath Breast Care Nurse in our region?
The McGrath Foundation provides funding for McGrath Breast Care Nurses nationally, with particular emphasis on rural and regional areas across the country. Each McGrath Breast Care Nurse is funded for a minimum of three years.
Each application will be considered on its merits. Please consider the basic criteria before developing an application for funding, including:
- Funding is only available for the employment of specialist breast care nurses
- There must be no access to a full-time breast care nurse currently at the facility requesting support
- Top-up funding for existing positions is not generally available
- Rural and regional areas will be given priority status
A proposal can be submitted to the McGrath Foundation at any time and should consider the criteria outlined above. An outline of the following information should be provided:
- Organisation making the application, including:
- Geographical areas serviced by the organisation
- Number of health facilities, both public and private, within the area
- Population within the area
- Breast cancer incidence and existing services available, including:
- Number of new breast cancer diagnoses each year within the area
- Details of how many patients currently receive care
- Details of any existing breast care nurse positions within the area (including full-time equivalent positions, geographic locations and facilities)
- Proposed breast care nurse position, including:
- Details of where the breast care nurse will be located (geographical area and facility)
- Geographical areas to be serviced by the position
- Proposed full-time equivalency of the position
- Explanation of how the nurse will fit within existing care structures and outline of the key functions of the breast care nurse within the facility and community
- Costs over the funding period, including all on-costs which must be itemised
