The aim of the McGrath Foundation is to provide funding for breast care nurses primarily in rural and
regional areas of Australia, however, each application will be considered on its merits.
Please consider the basic criteria detailed below when making an application for funding. If you have
any questions regarding these criteria, or would like to make an initial enquiry before preparing a
proposal, please contact the McGrath Foundation’s
- funding is only available for specialist breast care nurses;
- there must be no access to a full time breast care nurse available currently;
- no top up funding is available; and
- funding applications will be considered primarily from rural and regional areas.
If the application is successful, the McGrath Foundation funding is available for a period of 3 years.
Any proposal submitted to the McGrath Foundation should consider the criteria outlined above and provide an outline of the:
- Organisation making the application, including:
- Geographical areas serviced by the organisation;
- Number of health facilities, both public and private, within the area; and
- Population within the area.
- Breast cancer incidence and existing services available, including:
- Number of new breast cancer diagnoses each year within the area;
- Details of how patients currently receive care; and
- Details of any existing breast care nurse positions within the area (including FTE of those positions and geographic locations).
- Proposed breast care nurse position, including:
- Details of where the breast care nurse will be located (geographical area and facility);
- Geographical areas to be serviced by the position;
- Proposed FTE of the position;
- Example job description and explanation of how the nurse will fit within existing care structures; and
- Costs, including all on-costs which must be itemised.
