Citizens Who Care
Citizens Who Care are a group of people who have all been touched in some way through family and friends suffering from,
recovering and passed due to breast cancer. The group was formed to support those organisations who help others who are
less fortunate than ourselves. Our motto is, 'Helping those who help others'. This motto brings strength to our campaign
and gives those who support our group more of an understanding of our aims and goals.
Like so many of us, we were left to provide the necessary care and support for those close to us that suffered from breast cancer and with little or no medical support or emotional understanding. Our group, Citizens Who Care, are trying to make a difference by helping the helpers. Our friends who are now our sponsors saw that we were endeavouring to make life a little easier for those who provide comfort through medical understanding and later treatment for ongoing effects.
Citizens Who Care looked at a number of organisations that offered research into possible cures for breast cancer to assist. However, our group wanted an organisation that provided more personal attention to those who are affected by breast cancer in some way. Our search was not difficult and within hours we had agreed to support one organisation that provided such care, The McGrath Foundation.
The Executive Committee of 'Citizens Who Care' consists of Rob Bauer, Chair; Maree Chandler, clerical support and group administrator; and Helen Rimmington, events co ordinator. The group’s major sponsors are: Hans Trailers, Channel Seven, Wide Bay; Bugle Newspaper, Gloria Jeans Coffee Bundaberg and Rob Bauer Scrap for Charity.
To raise awareness through the region and country, Citizens Who Care also took on the challenge to break the Guinness World Record for the longest bra chain. This record is currently held by the 'CANCER PATIENTS SUPPORT GROUP PAPHOS CYPRUS' and took place in the harbor of the town of Paphos in Cyprus and measured a staggering 111Km. This took 114,782 bras to achieve. Our goal is to collect more than 120,000 to smash the record and have Australia and our group listed as the record holders. Of course we can not achieve this feat unless we receive support from the people of Australia. Therefore, Citizens Who Care are calling on all who wish to support the challenge and those who wish to support the McGrath Foundation through financial donations to assist us. The mailing address for both the Bra challenge and donations is:
07 4151 1198 after 6pm or 0439 359 130 at any time.
We look forward to your help to help us help them
