AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR OUR FRIENDS REGARDING INACCURATE MEDIA
Saturday, 27 August 2011 11:43Everyone at the Foundation is disappointed with the opening paragraph of today's Sydney Morning Herald and other media commentary. It is important to note we are not under investigation from any authoritative source.
The reality is we've grown from 4 McGrath Breast Care Nurses to 68 funded McGrath Breast Care Nurses in just three years - these McGrath Breast Care Nurses have helped support over 10,000 Australian families experiencing breast cancer.
Each of these McGrath Breast Care Nurses costs on average $350,000 over the term of their three year contract. In this context, the Foundation must have funds secured prior to executing the contract and this is the case for all McGrath Breast Care Nurses. They continue to provide these services completely free of charge and families can self-refer.
When we do our financial analysis, we remain confident we are currently committing 78 cents in every dollar raised to supporting this service and our education initiative targeting young women, while we spend just seven cents in every dollar on fundraising and fifteen cents on administrative and overhead costs.
As our friends, we just felt it was important we get this message out to you as quickly as possible this morning to help you understand the context and as always, we're grateful for your continued ongoing support.
