3 Mobile Sydney Test Turns Pink Again!

Wednesday, 07 April 2010 13:38

It was no surprise the Australian cricket team won the Sydney Test, as everyone knows pink makes you a winner!

The 2010 3 mobile Sydney Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground was a shining example of how the Australian public and cricketing community joined forces to not only increase breast awareness in younger women but also raised over $300,000 for the McGrath Foundation to help fund additional McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia.

Some of the 2010 highlights included:

  • ln_3_mobile_1Celebrities coming together and throwing some snags on the barbie to raise money for the Foundation, with chefs including Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Glenn McGrath and the following Foundation Friends: former Australian cricketer, Michael Bevan, Manly Sea Eagles star, David ‘Wolfman’ Williams; Fox Sports reporter, Lee Furlong; Australian netballer, Catherine Cox; celebrity trainer, Shannan Ponton; and Bondi Rescue’s, Andrew Reid.
  • The second annual Jane McGrath High Tea, hosted by Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, with guest speakers including Tracy Bevan; former Olympic track sprinter, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor; media personality Adam Spencer; and NSW Waratahs captain, Phil Waugh.
  • ln_3_mobile_2The renaming of the iconic Ladies Stand to Jane McGrath Stand on Jane McGrath Day, never before done for any other WAG. We know Jane would have been so proud.
  • Both the Australian and Pakistani teams pinking their iconic baggies to show their support for the cause before signing them and handing them back to the Foundation for an online competition.
  • Pinking of the Australian team player shirts, with the McGrath Foundation logo featured on the collar with pink embroidery, also signed and handed back to the Foundation for an online competition.
  • 3 mobile generously donated $3,000 for every wicket and six hit on Day 3 of the Sydney Test, raising an additional $33,000 – thank goodness we’ve got such talent on the Aussie team! 3 mobile also helped pink out the pitch again by turning their on-field signage, fence signage and stumps pink, as well as providing volunteers and pink zinc for the crowd.
  • The Great Betfair Pigeon Race again saw 12 elite racing pigeons making their journey from Narromine to Trangie, raising $10,000 for the Foundation!

ln_3_mobile_3There are a couple of hundred people we’d like to thank (literally!) and these are our dedicated volunteers, who were once again out in full force, roaming the crowd selling hot pink bandanas and pink zinc to supporters as well as accepting donations. Thank you to the staff of Vodafone Hutchison Australia, Pfizer, White Lady Funerals, Commonwealth Bank Australia, RAAF, and BDO.

We’d also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who participated nationally either from home making a donation from home or by wearing and buying pink at the Ground. The Sydney Test is as pink as it is because of your support, so let’s hope we can get the Barmy Army on board for the 2011 Ashes and turn the SCG pink for the third year in a row!

We’d especially like to thank Cricket Australia, Cricket NSW, Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, and 3 mobile for working with us to make the Sydney Test a reality. While the Sydney Test only lasted four days, there were many busy people in the background from these three groups working with us for months on end to make the Pink Test such a success. We love working with you all and are so excited to make the Ashes pinker than ever!
