Nothing says Summer quite like cricket and a BBQ: Jane McGrath Day set to sizzle with Australia's hottest sport stars and celebrities firing up the barbie in support of the McGrath Foundation!

Monday, 21 December 2009 09:40

What's better than cricket and a BBQ on a hot summer's day?  A BBQ cooked for you by your favourite sporting idols and celebrities, of course!

Sporting legends Glenn McGrath, Michael Bevan, Stuart Clark, Lisa Sthalekar, Catherine Cox, and Bondi Surf Life Saver Andrew Reid, will be throwing some snags on the barbie for the BBQ - Me and You: McGrath Foundation Cooks, feeding the cricket masses in return for a gold coin donation to the McGrath Foundation - all in celebration of Jane McGrath Day on Day 3 of the 3 mobile Sydney Test between Australia and Pakistan.

Set to be one of the biggest BBQs of the year, the BBQ - Me and You: McGrath Foundation Cooks will be just one of the many activities taking place to celebrate Jane McGrath Day (formerly Ladies Day) with Cricket Australia through its Cricket Cares program and 3 mobile, together with the SCG Trust and Cricket NSW, once again joining forces to turn the 3 mobile Sydney Test pink.

Former Australian cricket legend and Friend of the McGrath Foundation, Michael Bevan, is thrilled to be taking part in the initiative in memory of his friend, the late Jane McGrath, and to help raise awareness and funds for the Foundation.

"There is nothing I like more than firing up the barbie for family and friends, so I'm more than happy to host a BBQ for cricket fans who will be showing their support by wearing pink, all in memory of Jane.

"I couldn't be happier to be a part of Jane McGrath Day at my old home ground, the SCG, and honour Jane in this way, as she was a good friend who left behind an amazing legacy.  If the support behind Jane McGrath Day last year is anything to go by, along with the increased support the Foundation has received over the past year, this year's Jane McGrath Day will be bigger and pinker than ever!"

In addition to the BBQ - Me and You: McGrath Foundation Cooks, other activities for cricket fans on Jane McGrath Day will include the Jane McGrath High Tea, pink zinc being exchanged in return for a gold coin donation and a new range of merchandise including the return of the popular pink bandanas, men's and women's polo shirts, caps, hats, flags and even pink novelty wigs.
Executive Director of the McGrath Foundation, Tracy Bevan, thinks the public support of the 3 mobile Sydney Test in 2009 was a fantastic testament to Jane's impact on Australia.

"To think that less than a year ago, we were standing on the pitch thanking Australia for their support of Jane and the McGrath Foundation, is just incredible.  It was one of the highlights of my time at the McGrath Foundation because I know that my friend Jane would have been so incredibly proud.

"To know it's happening again in just a couple of weeks, is very exciting.  The Foundation is all about friends and family working together to make a difference and with the unbelievable support of the Australian public over the past year, we think this is a great way to extend that message of friendship into the community and thank them for their support.

"Plus, I can't wait to see Mike and all our other Foundation Friends all ready to BBQ for cricket fans in their hot pink aprons!"

To make sure fans don't miss out on the BBQ - Me and You: McGrath Foundation Cooks, the BBQs will be firing up from 8:30am until 10:00am on Tuesday, 5 January 2010 at Gates C and F.
