McGrath Breast Care Nurse Update - Michaela Durrant, Nurse and Funding Manager
Friday, 18 December 2009 10:18Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to all our nurses for their special efforts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. On top of their busy patient load, our nurses took time to work within their community to help spread the importance of breast awareness amongst countless school, community and women’s groups in their local areas.
Three of our wonderful McGrath Breast Care Nurses, Rachel Gorrell from Bathurst, Diana Thomas from Mudgee, and Liz Shaw from Hervey Bay, were excited to receive a VIP visit from the Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, and Health Minister, Nicola Roxon who were able to see firsthand the support our McGrath Breast Care Nurse’s provide the community. The Prime Minister also used the opportunity to announce that all 44 federally funded McGrath Breast Care Nurses have now been placed – something we are definitely celebrating back at the Foundation! I am also excited to say that preparations are now well underway for the Annual Breast Care Nurse Conference in Sydney in March 2010. The conference is a fantastic opportunity for our nurses to update themselves with all the latest information and research in breast cancer, as well as to meet and network with other nurses from across Australia (and make some new friends along the way)!
And, on behalf of the McGrath Foundation, I would like to wish each of our 53 McGrath Breast Care Nurses a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year – we can’t wait to continue to work with them in 2010.
