BCiB 2009 Inaugural National Pink Bowls Day A Huge Success

Friday, 18 December 2009 10:08

dec09_b1In October, lawn bowls clubs across the nation got their pink on and participated in the inaugural National Pink Bowls Day raising over $150,000 for the McGrath Foundation!

The day was hosted and organised by BCiB (Bowling Club Insurance Brokers) and saw over 250 clubs and a phenomenal 20,000 people participating. Some our favourite stories in the office from the event include:

  • Dunedoo Bowling Club, NSW had a fantastic day in an area that is affected by drought. The local radio station got involved and the result was hilarious. One bloke played bowls in a pink bikini while the other painted his horse and rode it to town wearing a kilt. The weather turned wet and miserable part way through the day but that didn't deter the enthusiastic gathering of 88 members and guests who went on to raise $4,000!

  • dec09_b2Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club, NSW, was not to be deterred by the wet weather either with its loyal band of members turning up in all manner of pink attire to support the day. A few of the BCiB staff were in attendance and can attest to the great enthusiasm of the club, which also raised a whopping $6,000!

Everyone here at the McGrath Foundation would like to say a big thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part – particularly Karen Ferguson at BCiB for all her hard work and effort to pull together this fantastic event! We can’t wait for the pink bowls to roll out again next year!
