Ford or Holden? Doesn't matter. Australia's first ever pinked V8 Supercar racing team, Team McGrath, Blazes across Mount Panorama!

oct09_v8.jpgIf you were watching this weekend’s exciting 2009 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, you may have seen a flash of hot pink, with Team McGrath’s debut on track!

Team McGrath is the result of a friendship between the Wilson Security Racing Team and the McGrath Foundation to create something completely new and unique within the motor racing community.

By transforming the traditional Wilson Security Racing Team’s cars, drivers and crew with the McGrath Foundation’s logo and signature hot pink (all gifted generously by the Wilson Security Racing Team), both parties are aiming to drive a completely fresh conversation within the community around the importance of breast awareness among young women and the invaluable role McGrath Breast Care Nurses play in providing support for families experiencing breast cancer.

And the racing community truly got on board with the initiative – Holden or Ford fan, people at the Bathurst 1000 were proudly wearing their Team McGrath merchandise to show their support for the Foundation.

We’d like to say a big congratulations to our Team McGrath drivers, Leanne Tander, Fabian Coulthard, Michael Patrizi and David Wall, who showed Australia that pink truly does make you go faster!

Sadly, although keeping a steady pace in seventh place for most of the race, a component failure being the tail shaft put Team McGrath #111 (Coulthard/Patrizi) out of action 120 laps into the 161 lap race.  Thankfully, Team McGrath #333 (Tander/Wall) placed 18th, a fantastic result!

The girls from the Foundation who spent the weekend at Bathurst had a fantastic time and are all converted motor enthusiasts thanks to our time in the pit and on the starting grid – we’d like to say a massive thank you to the entire Wilson Security Racing Team for their generous hospitality over the weekend, in particular Debbie and John McMellan, Paul Cruickshank, Leanne Tander, Fabian Coulthard, Michael Patrizi and David Wall.

It was such an amazing event and we can’t wait to see Team McGrath back in action at the Sydney 500 in December!
