Pink Lady: IGA and Aussie Apples support the McGrath Foundation

pink-lady-apple.jpgThe old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" has taken on a whole new meaning.

Not only will eating apples keep you healthy this June, it will also raise money to help the McGrath Foundation support women with breast cancer and their families.

The McGrath Foundation aims to raise money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses right across rural and regional Australia, as well as increasing breast awareness in younger women.

Independent grocers IGA will donate 20 cents from every specially marked 1kg punnet of Pink LadyTM apples sold between June 15 and July 5.

"We are very pleased to be able to support the great work of the McGrath Foundation," said Nick Pagett, IGA's General Manager of Fresh Produce.

"Breast cancer, unfortunately, is something that affects women in so many communities throughout Australia. We hope that our partnership with the McGrath Foundation for this initiative, through our network of 1280 stores, will assist them in continuing to provide valuable support to these women and their families.

"We have made an upfront donation of $15,000 to kick-start the fundraising and will now donate 20c from every punnet sold," said Nick.

Executive Director of the McGrath Foundation, Tracy Bevan, believes the Pink Lady fundraising initiative through IGA and Aussie Apples is a great fit for the McGrath Foundation.

"Apples are healthy, convenient and taste great. And by enjoying a few extra Pink Lady apples from IGA this June, you will not only be doing your health a favour, you will also help the McGrath Foundation continue to support women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families," said Tracy.

Chairman and Founder of the McGrath Foundation, Glenn McGrath, echoed Tracy's comments and hopes people will support the initiative.

"I've always been good with things that are red and round and that I can flick quickly, and Pink Lady apples fit the bill. I encourage everyone to pick up a punnet of Pink Lady apples from their local IGA store," said Glenn.
