Howzat! A hot pink summer for Australian cricket

Also in October, Cricket Australia (CA) named the McGrath Foundation as one of their charities of choice to receive support under their new national Cricket Cares program. CA Chief Executive Officer, James Sutherland said cricket is an integral part of communities the length and breadth of Australia and CA is keen for the sport to return something to those communities which make it possible for Australian cricket to exist.

At the national level, CA's Cricket Cares program will partner with the McGrath Foundation and the Movember Foundation to encourage greater awareness of and support for both female and male health issues which affect so many in the community.

CA is also encouraging international and state cricketers with their own individual charity work and encourages Australian cricket at all levels to give something back to the community.

Cricket fans can keep up-to-date with this community work and how they can get involved in helping worthy causes by heading to www.cricket.com.au/cricketcares.

According to Tracy, while Jane wasn't particularly comfortable in the public eye, she felt passionately about using her profile and experiences to help other families dealing with breast cancer.

"She would have been so pleased that the wider cricketing family – which played such a huge role in her and Glenn's life – is now partnering with the Foundation to continue to work towards realising her dreams of access to a McGrath Breast Care Nurse for all women diagnosed with breast cancer and increased awareness among younger women of the importance of being breast aware.

"We're very much looking forward to working with CA to help them get in touch with their pink side!" said Tracy.

Let's take a sneak peak at what other fantastic things Cricket Australia has in store for the McGrath Foundation this summer. 3 Mobile Test Series – Perth, Melbourne, Sydney ... Here we come!

Hot pink is now synonymous with the McGrath Foundation and this summer, Cricket Australia, the SCG Trust and 3 Mobile are turning the 3 Mobile Test at the SCG against South Africa hot pink to show their support for the McGrath Foundation.

Day 1 (Saturday, 3 January):
Everyone going to the SCG will not only be encouraged to wear pink but will also be able to purchase a limited edition pink bandana. Money raised from the sales of the bandanas will go directly to the Foundation. Make sure you also watch for the pink logos on the player’s shirts, the pink wickets, the pink signage around the ground and much, much more. Get ready to get in touch with your own pink side!

Day 3 (Monday, 5 January):
Traditionally known as Ladies Day, this iconic cricket fixture is to be renamed the Jane McGrath Day in honour of Jane’s contribution to both the cricketing and wider community. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by pink moments and the best of what it is to be a girl with the rear of the Ladies Stand covered in a “ginormous” pink banner, a Village Pink (instead of a Village Green) and a High Tea (rather than a traditional lunch). There will be ample fundraising opportunities so ladies... be prepared to take charge of the SCG for the day and bowl the blokes over! After all, we have to make Jane proud.
