Hats off to the community of Albury Wodonga who have got right behind their new McGrath nurse with a tremendously
successful ‘Pink Breakfast’ recently. A full house of 350 people (plus a waiting list who couldn’t fit in) enjoyed
a 9am Saturday breakfast a few weeks ago with special guests Michael Bevan, Australian Idol finalist and local
singer Lisa Mitchell and Channel 10 TV personality Kylie King. A local auctioneer from Elders enticed the crowd
to part with extra cash with a spirited auction of donated items including signed cricket bats, balls, memorabilia
and other items.
McGrath Foundation General Manager Tracy Bevan made the trip to Albury for the event and kept the large crowd amused and entertained with her banter. Tracy spoke from the heart about the wonderful response from the local community to the work of the Foundation and the future goals to have many more regional communities with access to a McGrath nurse. All funds raised from the breakfast and auction go to the McGrath Foundation. Albury Wodonga is also the home of the Brave Hearts Dragons Abreast Dragon Boat. What makes this boat very special is that it was built by a group of over 40 women who have had cancer, along with volunteers and the expert teachers of the Albury Campus of the Riverina Institute of TAFE. Brave Hearts Dragons Abreast has come about due to the ongoing support of the Albury Wodonga community and the enthusiasm of its wonderful participants who continually strive to prove to others that you can lead a full and active life despite the physical and emotional limitations that a cancer diagnosis imposes.
