Canberra Darters vs Singapore
The AIS Arena will turn a ‘sea of pink' when the Canberra Darters netball team take on Singapore in their first home game of the Australian National League on August 7.
Netball ACT has appealed to the Canberra public to wear something ‘pink' and attend the match in big numbers with half of the gate takings to be donated to the McGrath Foundation.
The match against Singapore represents the first time that a Canberra netball team has played against international opposition.
But more importantly it represents an opportunity for Canberrans to show their support for the McGrath Foundation.
The McGrath Foundation aims to raise money to place McGrath Breast Care Nurses right across rural and regional Australia, as well as increasing breast awareness in younger women.
Executive Director of the McGrath Foundation, Tracy Bevan, believes the Canberra Darters ‘Pink Theme' fundraising initiative is a great fit for the McGrath Foundation.
"Pink is the primary colour of both the Darters and McGrath Foundation," Bevan said.
"What better way to have a fun night out than wearing the colour of the local Canberra netball team and at the same time help raise important funds for the Foundation."
Chairman and Founder of the McGrath Foundation, Glenn McGrath, echoed Tracy's comments and hopes people will support the initiative.
"I encourage everyone within the Canberra community to attend the game, cheer on the Darters and help the McGrath Foundation continue to support women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families," McGrath said.
Netball ACT CEO Noel Harrod said the Canberra Darters were delighted to be supporting the great work of the McGrath Foundation.
"Breast cancer, unfortunately, is something that affects women of all ages in so many communities throughout Australia," Harrod said.
"One in eight women will be affected by breast cancer but with early diagnosis the survival rate is now up to 85 per cent and that is the positive message we want to spread in promoting the game against Singapore."
"I urge the Canberra community to get right behind the big ‘pink night' as we look forward to filling the AIS Arena on August 7."
